My name is Simon Furnivall Lambert and I am the owner of the business. I started my working life as an architectural modelmaker in London using mainly plastics, but I have always had an interest in woodworking which I pursued as a pastime right from an early age. Some years later, I returned to studying and obtained a BSc (Hons) in Forest Products Technology from Brunel University. This provided me with a very good understanding of the many aspects of wood as a material - microscopic structure, working properties, numerous uses, environmental concerns, degradation etc.. Traditional woodworking skills were honed at Rycotewood College, Thame as part of a Continuing Education Certificate. I also had the opportunity to work in a furniture factory in High Wycombe which proved to be a very useful experience. Here I learnt many important commercial aspects of wood processing and furniture making while working in the cabinet making shop. In January 2003, I felt ready to set up in business and established Furnivall Finecrafts in Hemel Hempstead.
All good craftsmen 'sign' their work in some way and so the silhouette of a seahorse was adopted. Why a seahorse? Please click on the link to find out more about the seahorse logo.
The business has definitely benefited from the assistance of Business Link who offer information, advice and support in starting and developing such an enterprise.
